HAPPY NEW YEAR 1431AH

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

A bit late i know, but insha Allah better late than never! I find it amazing how the first day of Muharram last Friday was also the first day of the snow storms across the UK and all over Subhan Allah.

I was walking to work on Monday (trying not to trip over in the ice and snow!) when i came to the top path of the subway i saw this beautiful red fox with a black tail just in front of me, it looked at me and then ran off into the bushes then turned and looked again and left....it was a really beautiful sight Subhan Allah. The first that i had was that it reminded me of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe :D

I thought i saw a robin as well but it didn't have a red undercoat so i don't think it was.

I don't want to dwell too much on the snow but i'll find it really funny if it all diappears by Christmas Day- so much for the white Christmas!!!!!

Alhamdulilah my work is going well.........though i never realised how hard it is to work by yourself and have no collegaues or people to talk and discuss things with! But Alhamulilah apart from that it's going really well and i'm enjoying it!

Anyway people, it's the Day of Ashura this weekend insha Allah so make sure you fast both days if you can and make Du'a for me :D

The dates are 9th (26th) Saturday and 10th (27th) Sunday December.

I leave with some Hadiths as to the story and recommendations of fasting on Ashura:

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 218:

Narrated Salim's father:

The Prophet said, "Whoever wishes may fast on the day of 'Ashura'."

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 219:

Narrated 'Aisha:

Allah's Apostle ordered (the Muslims) to fast on the day of 'Ashura', and when fasting in the month of Ramadan was prescribed, it became optional for one to fast on that day ('Ashura') or not.

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 220:

Narrated Aisha:

Quraish used to fast on the day of 'Ashura' in the Pre-lslamic period, and Allah's Apostle too, used to fast on that day. When he came to Medina, he fasted on that day and ordered others to fast, too. Later when the fasting of the month of Ramadan was prescribed, he gave up fasting on the day of 'Ashura' and it became optional for one to fast on it or not.

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 221:

Narrated Humaid bin 'Abdur Rahman:

That he heard Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan on the day of 'Ashura' during the year he performed the Hajj, saying on the pulpit, "O the people of Medina! Where are your Religious Scholars? I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'This is the day of 'Ashura'. Allah has not enjoined its fasting on you but I am fasting it. You have the choice either to fast or not to fast (on this day).' "

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 222:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

The Prophet came to Medina and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura. He asked them about that. They replied, "This is a good day, the day on which Allah rescued Bani Israel from their enemy. So, Moses fasted this day." The Prophet said, "We have more claim over Moses than you." So, the Prophet fasted on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to fast (on that day).

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 223:

Narrated Abu Musa:

The day of 'Ashura' was considered as 'Id day by the Jews. So the Prophet ordered, "I recommend you (Muslims) to fast on this day."

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 224:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

I never saw the Prophet seeking to fast on a day more (preferable to him) than this day, the day of 'Ashura', or this month, i.e. the month of Ramadan.

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 225:

Narrated Salama bin Al-Akwa:

The Prophet ordered a man from the tribe of Bani Aslam to announce amongst the people that whoever had eaten should fast the rest of the day, and whoever had not eaten should continue his fast, as that day was the day of 'Ashura' .

The Door of Islam.....

Narrated 'Amr bin Maimun:

I saw 'Umar bin Al-Khattab a few days before he was stabbed in Medina. He was standing with Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman and 'Uthman bin Hunaif to whom he said,

"What have you done? Do you think that you have imposed more taxation on the land (of As-Swad i.e. 'Iraq) than it can bear?"

They replied, "We have imposed on it what it can bear because of its great yield."

'Umar again said, "Check whether you have imposed on the land what it can not bear." They said, "No, (we haven't)."

'Umar added, "If Allah should keep me alive I will let the widows of Iraq need no men to support them after me."

But only four days had elapsed when he was stabbed (to death ). The day he was stabbed, I was standing and there was nobody between me and him (i.e. Umar) except Abdullah bin 'Abbas. Whenever Umar passed between the two rows, he would say, "Stand in straight lines." When he saw no defect (in the rows), he would go forward and start the prayer with Takbir. He would recite Surat Yusuf or An-Nahl or the like in the first Rak'a so that the people may have the time to Join the prayer.

As soon as he said Takbir, I heard him saying, "The dog has killed or eaten me," at the time he (i.e. the murderer) stabbed him. A non-Arab infidel proceeded on carrying a double-edged knife and stabbing all the persons he passed by on the right and left (till) he stabbed thirteen persons out of whom seven died. When one of the Muslims saw that, he threw a cloak on him. Realizing that he had been captured, the non-Arab infidel killed himself, 'Umar held the hand of 'Abdur-Rahman bin Auf and let him lead the prayer. Those who were standing by the side of 'Umar saw what I saw, but the people who were in the other parts of the Mosque did not see anything, but they lost the voice of 'Umar and they were saying, "Subhan Allah! Subhan Allah! (i.e. Glorified be Allah)."

Abdur-Rahman bin Auf led the people a short prayer. When they finished the prayer, 'Umar said, "O Ibn 'Abbas! Find out who attacked me." Ibn 'Abbas kept on looking here and there for a short time and came to say. "The slave of Al Mughira." On that 'Umar said, "The craftsman?" Ibn 'Abbas said, "Yes." 'Umar said, "May Allah curse him. I did not treat him unjustly. All the Praises are for Allah Who has not caused me to die at the hand of a man who claims himself to be a Muslim. No doubt, you and your father (Abbas) used to love to have more non-Arab infidels in Medina." Al-Abbas had the greatest number of slaves. Ibn 'Abbas said to 'Umar. "If you wish, we will do." He meant, "If you wish we will kill them." 'Umar said, "You are mistaken (for you can't kill them) after they have spoken your language, prayed towards your Qibla, and performed Hajj like yours."

Then Umar was carried to his house, and we went along with him, and the people were as if they had never suffered a calamity before. Some said, "Do not worry (he will be Alright soon)." Some said, "We are afraid (that he will die)." Then an infusion of dates was brought to him and he drank it but it came out (of the wound) of his belly. Then milk was brought to him and he drank it, and it also came out of his belly. The people realized that he would die. We went to him, and the people came, praising him. A young man came saying, "O chief of the believers! Receive the glad tidings from Allah to you due to your company with Allah's Apostle and your superiority in Islam which you know. Then you became the ruler (i.e. Caliph) and you ruled with justice and finally you have been martyred." 'Umar said, "I wish that all these privileges will counterbalance (my shortcomings) so that I will neither lose nor gain anything." When the young man turned back to leave, his clothes seemed to be touching the ground. 'Umar said, "Call the young man back to me." (When he came back) 'Umar said, "O son of my brother! Lift your clothes, for this will keep your clothes clean and save you from the Punishment of your Lord." 'Umar further said, "O 'Abdullah bin 'Umar! See how much I am in debt to others." When the debt was checked, it amounted to approximately eighty-six thousand. 'Umar said, "If the property of 'Umar's family covers the debt, then pay the debt thereof; otherwise request it from Bani 'Adi bin Ka'b, and if that too is not sufficient, ask for it from Quraish tribe, and do not ask for it from any one else, and pay this debt on my behalf."

'Umar then said (to 'Abdullah), "Go to 'Aisha (the mother of the believers) and say: "Umar is paying his salutation to you. But don't say: 'The chief of the believers,' because today I am not the chief of the believers. And say: "Umar bin Al-Khattab asks the permission to be buried with his two companions (i.e. the Prophet, and Abu Bakr)." Abdullah greeted 'Aisha and asked for the permission for entering, and then entered to her and found her sitting and weeping. He said to her, "'Umar bin Al-Khattab is paying his salutations to you, and asks the permission to be buried with his two companions." She said, "I had the idea of having this place for myself, but today I prefer Umar to myself." When he returned it was said (to 'Umar), "'Abdullah bin 'Umar has come." 'Umar said, "Make me sit up." Somebody supported him against his body and 'Umar asked ('Abdullah), "What news do you have?" He said, "O chief of the believers! It is as you wish. She has given the permission." 'Umar said, "Praise be to Allah, there was nothing more important to me than this. So when I die, take me, and greet 'Aisha and say: "Umar bin Al-Khattab asks the permission (to be buried with the Prophet ), and if she gives the permission, bury me there, and if she refuses, then take me to the grave-yard of the Muslims." Then Hafsa (the mother of the believers) came with many other women walking with her. When we saw her, we went away. She went in (to 'Umar) and wept there for sometime.

When the men asked for permission to enter, she went into another place, and we heard her weeping inside. The people said (to 'Umar), "O chief of the believers! Appoint a successor." Umar said, "I do not find anyone more suitable for the job than the following persons or group whom Allah's Apostle had been pleased with before he died." Then 'Umar mentioned 'Ali, 'Uthman, AzZubair, Talha, Sad and 'Abdur-Rahman (bin Auf) and said, "Abdullah bin 'Umar will be a witness to you, but he will have no share in the rule. His being a witness will compensate him for not sharing the right of ruling. If Sad becomes the ruler, it will be alright: otherwise, whoever becomes the ruler should seek his help, as I have not dismissed him because of disability or dishonesty." 'Umar added, "I recommend that my successor takes care of the early emigrants; to know their rights and protect their honor and sacred things. I also recommend that he be kind to the Ansar who had lived in Medina before the emigrants and Belief had entered their hearts before them. I recommend that the (ruler) should accept the good of the righteous among them and excuse their wrong-doers, and I recommend that he should do good to all the people of the towns (Al-Ansar), as they are the protectors of Islam and the source of wealth and the source of annoyance to the enemy. I also recommend that nothing be taken from them except from their surplus with their consent. I also recommend that he do good to the 'Arab bedouin, as they are the origin of the 'Arabs and the material of Islam. He should take from what is inferior, amongst their properties and distribute that to the poor amongst them. I also recommend him concerning Allah's and His Apostle's protectees (i.e. Dhimmis) to fulfill their contracts and to fight for them and not to overburden them with what is beyond their ability." So when 'Umar expired, we carried him out and set out walking. 'Abdullah bin 'Umar greeted ('Aisha) and said, "'Umar bin Al-Khattab asks for the permission." 'Aisha said, "Bring him in." He was brought in and buried beside his two companions.

When he was buried, the group (recommended by 'Umar) held a meeting. Then 'Abdur-Rahman said, " Reduce the candidates for rulership to three of you." Az-Zubair said, "I give up my right to Ali." Talha said, "I give up my right to 'Uthman," Sad, 'I give up my right to 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Auf." 'Abdur-Rahman then said (to 'Uthman and 'Ali), "Now which of you is willing to give up his right of candidacy to that he may choose the better of the (remaining) two, bearing in mind that Allah and Islam will be his witnesses." So both the sheiks (i.e. 'Uthman and 'Ali) kept silent. 'Abdur-Rahman said, "Will you both leave this matter to me, and I take Allah as my Witness that I will not choose but the better of you?" They said, "Yes." So 'Abdur-Rahman took the hand of one of them (i.e. 'Ali) and said, "You are related to Allah's Apostle and one of the earliest Muslims as you know well. So I ask you by Allah to promise that if I select you as a ruler you will do justice, and if I select 'Uthman as a ruler you will listen to him and obey him." Then he took the other (i.e. 'Uthman) aside and said the same to him. When 'Abdur-Rahman secured (their agreement to) this covenant, he said, "O 'Uthman! Raise your hand." So he (i.e. 'Abdur-Rahman) gave him (i.e. 'Uthman) the solemn pledge, and then 'Ali gave him the pledge of allegiance and then all the (Medina) people gave him the pledge of allegiance.

Dhul Hijjah 1430AH

Bismillah,

Subhan Allah the last few days we've heard reports that in Jeddah there's been some serious flooding and that approxiamtely 83 people have passed away. May Allah (SWT) have mercy on the souls of the brothers and sisters during this blessed time. Ameen.

Alhamdulilah my Uncle and Aunty who have gone to Hajj are ok and they didn't realise the weather was bad until they were informed, so thank Allah the Hujjaj aren't affected by it so much.

This 'Eid has been incredible so far and the 'Eid Khutba on Firday was exceptional, with the Imam discussing how the sincerity of our Prophet Ibrahim (AS) would outweigh the sincerity of the whole Ummah put together Subhan Allah. Just put things into perspective when it's simply put like that.

I also remember at the Halaqah that the Ustadh was talking about Akhira and Day of Judgement and stuff and he was talking about Isa (AS) and how he's going to come down and re-affirm he's a Muslim and represent Islam etc. But Ustadh asked us "have you ever thought why Allah (SWT) mentions the signs of Judgment Day as though it's already happen?"....we were silent, waiting for him to tell us and he replied saying "that's how certain it is! it's so certain and it's going to happen, that it may as well have already have happened!"

Allahu Akbar- that was by far one of the most profound things i've heard and which definitely hit as a reminder, that this life is coming to an end quite shortly and we will begin the ultimate test, which insha Allah we should all pass with flying colours through Allah's infinite Rahma.

I just received a phone call a short while ago about the job interview i went for....yeah the child protection act one and.......

*****I GOT THE JOB ALLAHU AKBAR***********

Subhan Allah, Allah (SWT) truly does hear our Du'as as long as we don't give up hope on Him and continuously ask Him and never tire of doing so- it's only when we get tired and lazy of going to Him and asking Him (SWT), that He doesn't respond to us...but by perservering insha Allah we will surely get it, maybe not in this Life but in the next Life for sure if it's good for us.

Allahu Akbar, truly we are ungrateful servants and nothing we ever do can even begin to repay all the favours and blessing He (SWT) has bestwoed upon us but we should no doubt strive to our best insha Allah.

I leave with my favourite Ayah's at the moment insha Allah and my all time favourite Ayah at the end.

Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and they will not be tested? [Surah Ankabut: Verse 2]

Say: O My servants who have transgressed against their own souls, despair not of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. [Surah az-Zumar 39:53]

EID MUBARAK

what a week....no, make that a few months!

Asalaamualaykum,

This is my first post, and Alhamdulilah all seems to be going well........so far :D

it always seems that whatever i do whether it be on a day to day basis or go to an event/meeting/programme etc something always seems to happen Subhan Allah!

this month alone i managed to:

1. get stopped by the police- no, not for racing with this asian guy and doing 60mph down the road- course not! what happens? police guy pulls me over because apparently front light didn't work, side mirros a bit broke and doors a bit damaged and he's concerned "it's not road worthy".... i guess i was pushing my luck when i was laughing and joking with my sisters saying imagine if we had a police chase with police car right behind us :D

2. get left behind on the hike at Camp: first of all i couldn't believe (still to this day!!) they left me behind. and i followed the route we were suppose to take and then stopped, thinking "no BA will definitely take them back to the hostel, weather's getting worse and plus 42 girls- yeah she definitely headed back" only to find once i was there it was totally empty!!! so i just went my own way and did my own thing like sit near the lake (get stuck in the bog as well knee high) and fell asleep watching the robins and the yellow tits (i'm pretty sure they were anyway! need to brush up on bird species identification!).......went to the forest sat on the bench and fell asleep.....then went to the youth hostel back garden sat on the wall and fell asleep....which i s when they came back around 2.30pm and found me (we left at 10am and i wasn't with them from 11am-ish!!)

3. then had a Camp Evaluation meeting and parked on double yellow around 5.15pm. only to find at the end that i got a parking ticket!!! and what time did i get the ticket- was it as soon as i parked....?? again no! it's 10mintues BEFORE you're allowed to park there! anyway it was good seeing all the girls again Alhamdulilah- though we only saw each other on the weekend it felt like a lifetime ago...and i know for sure they really couldn't cope those 24hrs without me :P

4. just went to Burrs Activity Centre on Saturday as part of the Youth Group and Alhamdulilah it was fantastic!!! built a raft with some containers and wood and the other team had 4 of them on one side and 2 on the other....and even before they left the stairs in the water they all fell it in!!! did some canoeing as well and canoe water polo and Subhan Allah none of them managed to tip me in the water....but what happens? yep that's right! i fall straight in there when i was climbing out at the end with no one even attempting or threatening to throw me in- the irony of it all is beyond me! then one of the guys said we should a water mexican wave and there was only 3 of u s who did and the water was FREEZING!!!! plus i can't swim and i was screaming with water in my mouth "i can't swim!" then guy's like "it's ok just put your feet down!" and one of the girl's was like "it's ok i'll save you!" so she swam over and put my foot down..........and the water only came upto my waist...! the girl's had a good laugh over that. we changed into decent clothes, had lunch and then went on the high ropes- which was the heardest thing ever!!! took me about 10/15mtz to get to the first bit coz the tyres were too high and i managed to make it to the first log....and then i just sat there hugging the hanging log holding on for dear life...i couldn't do any more because it absolutely killed my arms....which i still feel now!

4. had the MCB Youth Committee interview yesterday- was pretty surprised to find JK was going to be doing the interview as well!! totally messed up- particularly the bit where they asked what are the aims and ojectives of Youth Comm. and i just waffled on about representation some rubbish like that....! Alhamdulilah the brother gave some really good feedback on how i could improve and also told me that i got the position Allahu Akbar!!!!

5. had a job interview for Project Worker today- and that was the worse interview ever Subhan Allah. i'd seriously be surprised if i do get the job. the guy asked about how to deal with difficult children and kids and i waffle on about Lord knows what, and he replies "would you not refer to the Child Protection Act".....and being the intelligent person reply back what? "hmmm, maybe.......yes." it honestly will be a miracle if i do get this job!! insha Allah i pray i do!!

6. checked my results for Tajweed..... and yes i failed and i have to do resits. make Du'a i'm able to do well in them and get onto the next Level insha Allah and also memorise upto at least Surah Duha!!!!!

i remember RK said to me a couple of months back that apparently nothing is ever fun without me i.e that something always happens when i'm around.....well dude! you definitely right about that :D

final thoughts insha Allah:
1. Alhamdulilah i decided not to go to the Tariq Ramadan talk (after much deliberation!) and it ended up that he wasn't able to make it. but good on the Isoc who was able to provide another speaker at such short notice Masha Allah :D

2. went against going to the Charity Week Dinner- which i was totally gutted about coz Manchester totally slaughtered Leeds and by raising £18,000 Allahu Akbar!!! i also got to mention MMU have also done me proud by raising around £3,000- good on you guys :D
anyway, my Du'as are with all the brother's and sister's who got food poisoning from the restaurant at which it was hosted....i won't mention names as it's not the correct Adhab of a Muslim to cause harm to out fellow Muslim brother's and sister's

i just want to end on the Haidth of the Day:

The Talbiya of Allah's Apostle was:

Labbaika Allahumma labbaik, Labbaika la sharika Laka labbaik, Inna-l-hamda wan-ni'mata Laka walmu Lk, La sharika Laka

"I respond to Your call O Allah, I respond to Your call, and I am obedient to Your orders, You have no partner, I respond to Your call All the praises and blessi...ngs are for You, All the sovereignty is for You, And You have no partners with you."

[Bukhari 2:621]
